We covered our model with silk, which not only strengthens the model, but makes it possible to attain a beautiful paint job. Use enough clear dope to make the silk air-tight. Sand very lightly between the last two coats. Then use a flexible primer, such as Seal Sure Balsa Wood Sealer, which works fine on doped silk. Sand the sealer lightly.

Apply the silk span dry over a well prepared surface and leave it just loose enough so that after it is doped in place it can be dampened and shrunk to fit. Care should be taken not to apply the cov- ering tightly, as it will draw the sheet- ing, causing a wavy surface over the ribs and formers.

Covering Ensure that the model is as smooth as possible and cover with either heavyweight tissue or Jap silk. The latter, if available, is much more durable than paper.
